In 1980, almost all of the Inland capture by shrimping is done by the intensive aquaculture. Farm ponds during high-water (tidal water) exchange between the trapping or gathering of localestuaries and stocking ponds are directly acquired their stock in the wild postlarval and juvenile shrimp initially relied on. Shrimp are associated with mangrove in the wild.

Farming Method

Different types of farming systems evolved from earlier ‘no-stocking’ subsistence shrimp farming. In case of Black Tiger shrimp, three farming systems can be identified based on the intensity of production:

The majority of shrimp farms fall into the first two systems. These systems differ little fromeach other with regard to farm management practices such as pond preparation, occasionaluse of lime and fertilizer, separate sluices for flushing and drainage, nursing of PL in nurseryponds and use of screens in sluice gates to prevent predators.

Shrimp Farming Zone

Most of the firm are located on a coast and in mangrove areas. In the grow-out phase, the shrimp are grown to maturity. The post larvae are transferred to ponds where they are fed until they reach marketable size, which takes about another three to six months. Bangladeshi natural floodplains act as nutrient-rich nurseries for a large number of larva and juvenile fish species and more rich than Sea water, so no additional food is needed. So our farmer not feeding them any.

Generally Bangladesh has no bio & and hybrid shrimp. For Fresh Water shrimp farming is also natural, and our fresh Water shrimp is unique for it’s taste and quality.

Bangladesh have no Vannamei, It’s prohibited in Bangladesh by our government. As Vannamei is not our native species so our government prohibited it for assure the standard for our origin species. Although we are going behind to world competition due to lacking of vannamei, but it's the question of our own species quality and originate. I think everyone can understand the scenario how our govt is serious about our product quality and standard.

Others shrimp like Cat Tiger , Harina & White Prawn are 100% wild catching mainly from the Bay of Bengal and river.

Harvesting the shrimp is done by fishing them from the ponds using nets or by draining the ponds. Pond sizes and the level of technical infrastructure vary.

The World Bank and the Asian Development Bank financed projects to develop shrimp aquaculture in the 1980s. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has provided assistance to the shrimp and fishing industry in meeting fish safety and quality control standards based on the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) approach.
